چکیده

A model for the calculation of the inelastic contribution to the low-bias electron transport in molecular junctions is presented. It is an extension to the inelastic case of the Green’s function approach to the calculation of the conduction of such systems. The model is suited for the calculation in the off-resonance regime ~where molecular levels are far from the Fermi energy! and in the low bias limit, a typical situation encountered in inelastic electron tunneling measurements. The presentation of a general model is followed by the introduction of several approximations that make the calculation feasible for many systems of interest. Ab initio calculations of the vibronic coupling that leads to inelastic contribution to the conductance are performed for several molecules ~butadiene, biphenyl, dipyrrole, and dithiophene!, representative of possible molecular wires. The role of inelastic conduction is then quantified without empirical parameters and the vibrational modes that dominate the process are identified. The situations where the inelastic mechanism is particularly relevant are considered. The limits of this approach for the resonant case are also discussed. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1556854#

Vibronic effects on resonant electron conduction through single molecule junctions

The influence of vibrational motion on electron conduction through single molecules bound to metal electrodes is investigated employing first-principles electronic-structure calculations and projection-operator Green’s function methods. Considering molecular junctions where a central phenyl ring is coupled via (alkane)thiol-bridges to gold electrodes, it is shown that – depending on the distanc...

مطالعه عددی چگالی حالتها و رسانندگی الکترونی یک سیم مولکولی در حضور یک عامل خارجی

There is a great interest in the electronic properties of conjugated polymers. Numerous works on the electronic and conduction properties of single-chain conjugated polymers have been published. From an electronic conduction point of view, these systems are quasi-one dimensional. The aim of this paper is to try to investigate corresponding properties in conducting polymers in higher of one-di...

Voltage Regulation of DC-DC Series Resonant Converter Operating in Discontinuous Conduction Mode: The Hybrid Control Approach

Dynamic modeling and control of dc-dc series resonant converter (SRC) especially when operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is still a challenge in power electronics. Due to semiconductors switching, SRC is naturally represented as a switched linear system, a class of hybrid systems. Nevertheless, the hybrid nature of the SRC is commonly neglected and it is modeled as a purely contin...

First-Principles Analysis of Molecular Conduction Using Quantum Chemistry Software

We present a rigorous and computationally efficient method to do a parameter-free analysis of molecular wires connected to contacts. The self-consistent field approach is coupled with Non-equilibrium Green’s Function (NEGF) formalism to describe electronic transport under an applied bias. Standard quantum chemistry software is used to calculate the self-consistent field using density functional...

Charge transport in molecular junctions: From tunneling to hopping with the probe technique.

We demonstrate that a simple phenomenological approach can be used to simulate electronic conduction in molecular wires under thermal effects induced by the surrounding environment. This "Landauer-Büttiker's probe technique" can properly replicate different transport mechanisms, phase coherent nonresonant tunneling, ballistic behavior, and hopping conduction. Specifically, our simulations with ...
